          Not just another picnic.

Our daughters birthday dates are only 2 weeks apart. My husband and I decided to have a double celebration. Inspired by the previous outdoor birthday picnic, I am now planning a potluck picnic, this time with a jungle animals theme. We chose a familiar place, one where we always go to for a family picnic. We are on a tight budget so it will be a closed & private function. We apologize to those who are not on the guests list this year. Perhaps we could arrange more outdoor functions later.

With the limited budget, we have to plan very carefully so not a cent goes to waste. On the positive side, the creative part of the brain has to work extra hard. Almost everything has to be done d.i.y style. The creative juice is just flowing just like the river of Sungai Congkak, where the picnic will take place. There will be games for kids and adults too. Here is my inspiration board for our potluck picnic.

A handmade birthday card for dear husband.

Inspired by the mini bunting birthday card by How About Orange, I used ribbons from my previous project. It started as embellishment and later as the theme for our picnic.

          The picnic.

Tuesday, I left home as early as 6.30 in the morning. After dropping a friend at a local commuter station and on the way home I bought us breakfast. While waiting for the food, I called my husband and asked him to get himself and the kids ready for a picnic. He had no idea what I was up to.

At around 9 a.m., I picked them up and drove to Putrajaya. We made a stop on the way and bought a small, tiny cake just enough for the 4 of us. It was a beautiful, sunny day. And yesterday, being a weekday, Putrajaya Wetland was almost empty of people.

We drove around for about half an hour to find a perfect spot for our picnic. We took our time to check out a viewing jetty. The kids are thrilled by the swans elegantly swimming on the lake.

By 11 o'clock, eventually we chose a hut overlooking the lake and started unpacking and putting up banners. Things were looking pretty & we then knew it'd be a great day ahead.

          A sneak peek.

I'm planning a surprise picnic to celebrate dear husband's birthday. I'm excited not only because it's the birthday, the kids and us, the going out and the likes, but also because I'm preparing more than the food. Let's pray for a lovely weather in the morning.
