          Sahzana & Shahrizal

One of the things I love about doily paper is it's versatility. I could do a vintage theme, modern, simple, cute or adorable theme, doily suits them all nicely.

Credit for this cute combination goes to the bride herself. Sahzana wanted to include the two birdies on her invitation card and I willingly & happily obliged. And the same concept was applied to her bunting.

          Nur Saadah & Amir Hafizi

I was browsing for ideas when I found this great recipe.

          Wedding Cake Recipe:
          1/2 lb good looks
          1lb sweet temper
          1lb butter of youth
          1lb blindness of faults
          1lb of wit
          1lb good humour
          2lb of sweet argument
          1 pint of rippling laughter
1 wine glass of common sense
          a dash of modesty

Put the love good looks and a sweet temper into a well furnished house.
Beat the butter of youth into a cream,
and mix well together with the blindness of faults.
Stir the wit and good humour into the sweet argument
then add the rippling laughter and common sense.
Work the whole thing together until everything is well mixed,
          and bake gently forever.

Congratulations Nur Saadah & Amir Hafizi.
I wish you both a world of happiness as you take your first steps together as husband and wife.

          Izwan & Farhana

Here, sharing one of my favourite love songs,
          The Beatles' Real Love.

All my little plans and schemes,
          Lost like some forgotten dreams.
Seems that all I really was doing
          Was waitin' for you.

Just like little girls and boys,
          Playing with their little toys.
Seems like all we really were doing
          was waitin' for love.

          Don't need to be alone,
          No need to be alone.

          It's real love, it's real,
Yes it's real love, it's real.

From this moment on I know,
Exactly where my life will go.
Seems that all I really was doing
          was waitin' for love.

          Don't need to be afraid,
          No need to be afraid.

          It's real love, it's real,
Yes it's real love, it's real.

Thought I'd been in love before,
But in my heart I wanted more.
Seems like all I really was doing
          Was waitin' for you.

          Don't to be alone,
          No need to be alone.

          It's real love, it's real,
          Yes it's real love....

          Ehsan & Farhana

Warning : Lovey-dovey posting ahead. Proceed with care.

Having too much on my plate, right now, I have less time to update this blog and even less time to write. However, there's one thing I would like to share. It's a beautiful thing, when two people fall in love with each other and committed to spend the rest of their lives together. What I love most about my 'job' is, there's so much love in the air, and I get to fall in love with my husband over & over again. We are celebrating our 7th anniversary this year. It's been seven colourful years and we are ready for many more.

          Zuhaira & Fikri

Initially Zuhaira wanted only the tags and stickers. But she was short of invitation cards so she had to order more. It was a rush order, her cards are ready within a week. Only her round tags took a bit longer than usual but I'm glad the tags met her expectation.

Zuhaira, thank you very much for your patience.

          Sahrulnizam & Rosmiza

Here's another repeat design of Seri Wani & Faliq card. The bride, Rosmiza chose two contrasting colours, soft blue & light pink. While the groom, Sahrul decided on purple & gray. Hers look 'deliciously sweet', don't they?

Haliza Hadfizah & Kapt. Safarul Izhar

I tried to write a dedication to our teachers and men & women in the armed forces but could not find the right words so I leave you with these.

          Dedication I
          Singer: Saloma
          Song Title : Perwira
          Perwira...
          Dikaulah harapan hati
          Penghibur kala sunyi
          Pergilah berbakti
          Membela pertiwi

          Perwira...
          Janganlah kekanda bimbang
          Untuk pergi berjuang
          Andainya kau gugur
          Jasamu dikenang

          Dengarlah lagu kucipta
          Gubahan mesra nan manja
          Sebagai ganti diri
          Bersama kau berbakti
          Untuk ibu pertiwi

          Kekanda di medan perang
          Adinda di medan seni
          Sama-sama berjuang
          Sama-sama berbakti
          Semoga tabah hati

          Majulah kekanda maju jangan undur
          Dinda mohon doa restu
          Rela sehidup semati bersamamu
          Perwiraku

          Dedication II

          1979
          BERBURU ke padang datar
          Dapat rusa belang kaki
          Berguru kepala ajar
          Ibarat bunga kembang tak jadi
(dedikasi kepada Hari Guru dan guruku tercinta)

          Dialah pemberi paling setia
          Tiap akar ilmu miliknya
          Pelita dan lampu segala
          Untuk manusia sebelum jadi dewasa.

Dialah ibu dialah bapa juga sahabat
          Alur kesetiaan mengalirkan nasihat
          Pemimpin yang ditauliahkan segala umat
          Seribu tahun katanya menjadi hikmat.

Jika hari ini seorang Perdana Menteri berkuasa
Jika hari ini seorang Raja menaiki takhta
Jika hari ini seorang Presiden sebuah negara
Jika hari ini seorang ulama yang mulia
Jika hari ini seorang peguam menang bicara
Jika hari ini seorang penulis terkemuka
          Jika hari ini siapa sahaja menjadi dewasa;
Sejarahnya dimulakan oleh seorang guru biasa
          Dengan lembut sabarnya mengajar tulis-baca.

Di mana-mana dia berdiri di muka muridnya
Di sebuah sekolah mewah di Ibu Kota
Di bangunan tua sekolah Hulu Terengganu
          Dia adalah guru mewakili seribu buku;
Semakin terpencil duduknya di ceruk desa
          Semakin bererti tugasnya kepada negara.
Jadilah apa pun pada akhir kehidupanmu, guruku
Budi yang diapungkan di dulangi ilmu
          Panggilan keramat "cikgu" kekal terpahat
          Menjadi kenangan ke akhir hayat.

          What's all this dedication about?

You see, both Haliza & Kapten Safarul are from Kelantan. However, Kapten Safarul is now assigned to the border of Malaysia/Indonesia and Haliza is teaching in Tambunan, Sabah. That's a sacrifice not many of us are willing to make.

          Seri Wani & Faliq

Seri & I communicated via emails. I met most of my customers only once, when they came to pick up their orders. Many managed to convey their ideas clearly through writings. Just like Laila, Seri wanted the doily but not the extra cost. So again, I used the digital image of a doily paper.

"Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini"

This entry has got nothing to do with any yellow bikini.

But it's everything about polka dots. Saiful Amri & Ili Farhana tied the knot a month ago. They are in the midst of preparing for the 'Sambut Menantu', which will take place in the middle December.

The bride loved polka dots and the groom lovingly obliged.
The groom wanted a clean & simple design and the bride happily agreed.

I didn't expect the actual cards would look very 'sweet & tasty'. They somehow remind me of kuih lapis, a local delicacy.
          The artwork

          The actual card

The title of this post is actually a title of 1960's song by Brian Hyland.

          Happy D.I.Y Pelamin : Before & After

It's been almost three months but I have not done blogging about my brother’s wedding. Read earlier posts here and here. This entry will be a short one, of our very own D.I.Y pelamin. Spending thousands of RM on a pelamin would cause a serious damage to our budget. So we commissioned a local carpenter to build us a base for the pelamin and later did the decoration ourselves.

Metres of cloth and fabric are from my mom's collection. The same chair & mini stage were used at my wedding & my sister's. We bought only three things for this pelamin. One is the glass lantern, and the other two, were bought at a shop selling bakery supplies. Any guess?

They are, the shining gold doily paper and the mini crown on top of the pelamin. It's made out of round gold mini cake cardboard, commonly used as base for mini cakes.

          Dotty Doily - actual card

This is an invitation card for Nadia's 'Akad Nikah' so the order quantity is limited to only 200 pieces. The artwork is here. Looking at the budget, I suggested the 230gsm fine vein textured paper, not the common 260gsm art card. It provides a 'classic look & feel' to the cards. I love the colour combo. It is daring but not over the top.

          Dotty Doily

Ramadan is coming to its end and Aidilfitri is fast approaching. I am finalizing a few orders before going on 5-day raya break.

This invitation is for the ceremonial 'Akad Nikah' of Nadia & Imran. Nadia ordered her cards to be designed with doily papers. I will, later, glue the doily papers manually onto the cards, like I did here and here. The background was originally in pink but later changed to gray/silver as requested by Nadia. The same design is applied to the thank you tags & banner. I think the cards look cute, don't they?

          Congrats Nadia & Imran!

          The story of Ell's chandeliers.

Ell emailed me, specifically requesting a card with an English theme, with chandeliers & doily papers. She even made a not-so-simple sketch to visually explain what she had in mind. I've seen a lot of chandelier-inspired wedding card and from my point of view, they all look the same, with chandeliers hanging at the top & centre of the cards, or at the very left or right of them. But I wanted to do something a little bit different for Ell.

After much thoughts, I decided to do a background with, not just one chandelier, but a bunch of them. I did not tell this to Ell. Once I've done with the artwork, I emailed her the draft for her feedback without any justification on my design. I wanted Ell to see & judge for herself. I was thinking, if she like it, that would be nice. If not, maybe my idea is just not good enough.

A while later, came her reply, "k.durra, thx so much! i was jumping to the sky 1st time i saw it ok! :)". I thought that's more than nice. That's simply great!

And then I read her blog (please click to read). I was on cloud 9!

          Ell took the RM450 package.
The above artwork are her main invitation card and thank you tag.
The banner is on hold, waiting for her pre-wed photos.

Her VIP invitation card, with thank you tag for the her Kelantan reception.
The VIP card will be printed on elegant 210gsm fine linen paper and its' finishing will be handmade.

Thank you so much Ell for your kind words.
You have my pray and may Allah grant all your wishes of a happily-ever-after-life with your darling FH.

Black, red and all that glitters.

Made these for a friend not long ago. I only helped with the packaging, using most commonly found materials which are envelopes, wrapping paper, ribbons, sugar paper, tracing paper & of course doily paper.

          Doily inspired wedding decoration

It's only two more weeks before my brother's wedding reception and I am still buried deep in my doily-stamping load. A few more days and I will be done. But loving the pretty paper so much, that I have to look up for more doily inspired projects. Here are some of what I have discovered & fallen in love with, thanks to the ever-so-helpful, Mr.Google.

          Laboriously happy

Printed on 182mm X 110mm, 230gsm ivory white card, I later embellish them with white doily paper by hand, all 1000 pieces. The doilies are so thin, they have to be delicately stamped and glued. It's quite laborious but I am extremely happy doing it.
